The Jealous Curator : ART FOR YOUR EAR

ART FOR YOUR EAR brings you stories from some of my favorite contemporary artists. When I studied Art History, the best part was, well, the gossip. I loved finding out why artists did certain things, what was going on in their personal lives, and behind-the-scenes details about other artists they knew and worked with. This podcast is exactly that ... inside-scoop stories from the artsiest people I know. You'll hear first-hand from these talented, successful, full-time artists (who also happen to be regular people with hilarious stories) BEFORE they’re in the Art History books. - Danielle (aka The Jealous Curator)

She is the creator of a huge, rich, very involved creative project called "Consenses" ... oh, and just wait till you hear who her parents are!

Jun 11, 2016

A library of painted "props" that Kirstin Lamb uses to create her own still life scenes, and a detailed glossary to go with it. Be still my organization-loving heart!

Jun 4, 2016

Favorite TV shows, her previous life in PR, dirty words in Australia that mean something completely different in Canada - all of this and more from Rachel Castle's car. For real.

May 28, 2016

Boston based artist Scott Listfield likes astronauts. A lot. His oil paintings are gorgeous and full of pop-culture goodness - and he's hilarious. Perfect combination!

May 21, 2016

Not only is this a great quote, it's also a perfect description of how Canadian painter Zoe Pawlak lives her life. Artist, entrepreneur, mother, and taco-lover.

May 14, 2016

VICTORY! It took until episode 50 but I finally convinced Irish artist Lola Donoghue to come on the podcast. Her work is gorgeous, her story is inspiring, and her accent is THE BEST.

May 7, 2016

An amazing artist, a recent MFA graduate, a full-time middle school art teacher, and a single mother of twins - phewf. I was so excited to talk to Aris Moore. So excited, in fact, that I forgot to hit record.

Apr 30, 2016

Designer by day, artist all the time. I'm talking to Toronto based Amanda Happe. Her work is gorgeous and she is so insightful on the topic of creativity - great combination!

Apr 23, 2016

Layers and layers of graphite drawings, and who knows what else, all trapped in carefully poured resin. I'm asking Brooks Salzwedel about the how, what, and why behind his ethereal work. Watch for dinosaurs.

Apr 16, 2016

From a life-altering accident at 15, to finding her way to an art career decades later, this was such a lovely and inspiring talk with Sarah Gee Miller. The only thing missing - coffee and blueberry muffins.

Apr 9, 2016

Joël Penkman's food paintings are absolutely stunning, but imagine my delight when I found out that they're actually painted with food too ... well, kinda. How's that for a tease?!

Apr 2, 2016

Miles and miles of thread, porcelain, sometimes a bit of paint, more thread ... and the fact that "nothing is a mistake".

Mar 26, 2016

Found bits and pieces of wonderfulness with New York based artist Andrea D'Aquino. We talked about being disciplined in the studio {ie., getting in there and doing the work}, but also about the importance of happy accidents.

Mar 19, 2016

So many of you have asked if I could interview this amazing artist, and I've finally delivered! I'm talking to Swedish artist Camilla Engman. She was nervous about her English, but I assured her it was much better than my Swedish!

Mar 12, 2016

I'm talking to Utah based artist Stephanie K. Clark about "painting with thread", art vs. craft, and our shared fascination with peeking into people's windows at night ... don't judge us.

Mar 5, 2016

Real leaves, no tricks ... just the slow, careful, delicate work of German-born, UK based artist Susanna Bauer. Not only is her art lovely, so is she ... and apparently "a bit impatient". Um, what?!

Feb 27, 2016

Beautiful little sandwiches of paper, paint, and found images! Today I'm talking about process, song lyrics, and tacos with Austin based artist Xochi Solis.

Feb 20, 2016

If you live somewhere cold, brace yourself because the work of New York based painter Samantha French will make you want to jump into the closest pool!

Feb 13, 2016

Houses, embroidery thread, vintage ladies ... yes, it's very possible that Amsterdam based artist Hagar Vardimon and I are soul sisters. We're talking collage techniques, hunting for paper, and trying to find our way in the art world.

Feb 6, 2016

Chatting in a quiet library while sipping on gin and tonic. I'm talking cyanotypes and nature with talented Indianapolis based artist, Casey Roberts.

Jan 30, 2016

Botanical watercolors, rum-soaked nipple cakes, and cosmic moments late one night. Yep, all of that and more is covered in my conversation with Oregon based artist Kiana Mosley.

Jan 23, 2016

Gorgeous paintings that celebrate the mundane. Yep, Leah Giberson's painted subjects are truly beautifully boring. She said no to this interview three times, so listen quickly in case she figures out how to delete it!

Jan 16, 2016

I'm shaking things up a tiny bit today. Instead of talking to a visual artist, we're heading to LA to talk to actor Autumn Reeser about this whole creativity thing. It really is just one giant club!

Jan 9, 2016

I've been slightly obsessed with Maryanne Moodie's weaving work for ages, and I'm even more impressed after hearing her inspiring self-taught story. And now I want to be a weaver.

Dec 19, 2015

It's a mini pre-holiday episode, the perfect way to wrap up 2015, right? I asked twelve artists to tell me about "the best gift they ever got" ... see, I bet the art history books won't tell you about that!
